You can always resort to puzzles, games, writing and other drills that seem helpful. I feel that it is particularly important to use a variety of techniques because sticking to one will become boring after a while. Hence, I first introduce the words, explain the meaning and then practice chunks in class. One game that I find really very useful is matching the words with their respective meanings. Other than this, the regular classroom exercises and tests are always there.
