How to make learning ABC and counting interesting for children?
  • Amit
There are numerous methods for making counting and alphabet learning interesting for kids. You can try ‘calendar time’ or ‘object counting’ to begin with and ask them to count the number of objects they see around. A lot of aloud counting together helps a lot. Simply ask them questions like, how many friends are in the playground with you today or how many circles do you see in that wallpaper? These are just examples of how questions can be framed. Make it more exciting by asking them to count the cookies in a pack or eggs in a carton. For alphabet learning, you can use the newspaper headings and ask them to locate a particular letter which was taught last week. You can also pick-up a ‘letter of the week’ and discuss words that begin with it. Alternatively, reading out a sentence and then asking the learners to identify the words beginning with that letter is also a good idea. Moreover, relate the alphabets to the words of interest such as McDonalds starts with M and Walmart with W, etc.
