It provides education to the inhabitants of Thoothukudi. From June 4 2005 , it came under the Matriculation School Board. In June 2015 it was upgraded as a Higher Secondary School and recognition was granted by the Director of Matriculation schools, Chennai. Now Kamaraj school is one of the top schools in Thoothukudi District.
