Resources · Salary guide
What teaching actually pays, role by role.
Not a survey, and not a national average nobody is ever paid. Every figure below is counted from the salary bands Indian organizations posted on their own Jobors listings — the same listings you can open and read.

Base pay
Posted bands by designation
Organizations post pay as a band in lakhs per annum, chosen from a fixed list — so a band is a bracket the organization selected, not a figure it negotiated. Read the first column as “the band more listings sit on than any other”, not as a floor and a ceiling for the whole grade.

Scroll the table sideways on a small screen. “Median midpoint” is the middle value of the midpoints of the posted bands — a way of ranking designations against each other, not a salary anyone is offered. Leadership is not published: 19 listings is too thin a sample to put a number on, and saying so is more useful than publishing it anyway.

Share of the 3,099 listings carrying a posted band, by the midpoint of that band, on 27 August 2026. The market is narrow: the difference between a strong offer and a weak one is usually decided by everything in the next section rather than by the band itself.
Beyond the band
Six things the posted band does not tell you
None of this appears on a listing, so none of it is measured here and none of it carries a percentage. What it carries instead is the question to ask before you sign — the questions teachers most often tell us they wish they had asked.
| Component | What it means | What to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Gross versus in-hand | A posted band is almost always gross. Provident fund, professional tax and TDS come off it before anything reaches the account. | Ask for a written salary breakup — basic, HRA, allowances, deductions — not a single annual figure. |
| Provident fund and gratuity | Organizations covered by EPF deduct the employee share from the same gross and add an employer share on top; gratuity accrues after five years of continuous service. | Ask whether the employer PF contribution sits inside the quoted CTC or above it. The answer moves in-hand pay by thousands a month. |
| Accommodation | Residential and boarding organizations frequently house staff on campus, sometimes in place of an allowance rather than in addition to one. | Ask whether accommodation is deducted from the band, offered on top of it, or tied to residential duty in the hostel. |
| Fee concession for staff children | A concession on tuition for one or two children is a common part of an organization offer and is worth real money at a fee-paying campus. | Ask for the concession in writing, with the number of children and whether it covers transport and annual charges. |
| Duty beyond the timetable | Board evaluation, remedial classes, hostel duty, Saturday enrichment and admission season all sit outside teaching hours. | Ask what is expected, whether it is paid separately, and how many working Saturdays the calendar carries. |
| Increment and scale | Some organizations appoint on a consolidated salary; some run a pay scale with a defined annual increment; government-aided organizations may follow a Pay Commission scale. | Ask which of the three you are being appointed on, and when the first increment falls. |
Tax treatment depends on your regime, your deductions and your total income — take advice for your own situation rather than a rule of thumb from a hiring site.
Reading the bands
Three things decide where you land in a band
Two teachers with the same years of service routinely receive offers a third apart in the same city. It is rarely about length of service.
Board and grade band taught
Senior secondary carries the clearest premium in the posted data: PGT listings sit on a ₹3.0–5.0 LPA band where PRT listings sit on ₹2.0–4.0 LPA, and 15% of PGT roles post a ceiling above ₹5 LPA against 8% of PRT roles. Board results owned — a Class XII cohort with its pass percentage and distinction count — is the evidence that moves an offer inside the band.
Subject scarcity, city by city
Mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science and special education clear the top of a band far more often than primary generalist or humanities roles. Scarcity is local, not national: the same subject prices differently in Coimbatore than in Delhi NCR, which is why the guide does not publish a single all-India number.
CTET, state TET and B.Ed. status
For CBSE and most state board organizations, CTET or the state TET plus a B.Ed. is a threshold rather than a bonus — without it, strong candidates are filtered before pay is discussed at all. Filter the catalogue on roles that require it to see how much of the market that gate covers.
Methodology
How these figures were put together
Source. Every figure comes from the salary bands posted by verified organizations on published Jobors listings, counted on 27 August 2026: 3,099 listings from 1,435 organizations, being 97% of the published catalogue. Listings without a posted band are excluded. Nothing here is modelled, estimated from cost-of-living indices, or bought from a third party.
Why the bands look blunt. Organizations choose a band from a fixed list in whole lakhs per annum, so the catalogue contains ₹2–4 LPA and ₹3–5 LPA and almost nothing in between. That granularity is the reason this page publishes the most-posted band and a distribution rather than percentile ranges: percentiles over a handful of repeated values would look precise and mean nothing.
India only, and why there is nothing else here. Jobors lists teaching roles in India. It does not currently list roles in the Gulf, the UK, Singapore or anywhere else, and this page will not publish bands for markets it cannot show you the listings behind. Until it can, a guide to pay abroad belongs somewhere that has the data.
What is excluded. Provident fund, gratuity, campus accommodation, staff fee concessions, transport, and any payment for duty outside the timetable. The table above describes those separately and deliberately puts no number on them.
These are posted bands, not an offer, not a valuation of any individual teacher, and not advice on what to accept. Any specific role should be judged on its own posted band and its own written breakup.
