About Gyan Kendra Secondary School
Gyan Kendra Educational Institute was founded as a humble beginning by Late Prof. Ramnath Pandey, an educationist & then “The Minister of State of Maharashtra” & prominent visionaries (intellectuals, doctors, educationists and businessmen) in 1976 as a small public library at Satyendra Bhavan, Andheri (E). In 1979 a plot of land measuring area about 4000 sq.meter was allotted to Gyan Kendra at Four Bungalows, Andheri (W) by the Government of Maharashtra to run an English medium school. The Mission statement of Gyan Kendra is to strive only for excellence through education and discipline. “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamay”- from ignorance to enlightenment i.e. education is to draw out that which is lying latent in the child. Just like the Oyster which catches a speck of sand and finally transforms it into a beautiful pearl layer by layer, Prof. Ramnath Pandey – the founder President laid the foundation for the college before he left for his heavenly abode in 2004.
The vision of Prof. Ramnath Pandey was to educate children from all the sections of the society by giving the best of facilities and serene atmosphere in the institution. He was fondly called by everyone “Babuji”. After his demise, his son Advocate Shri Subhash Pandey was given the responsibility by the Gyan Kendra Trustees.
As MAHATMA GANDHI has said, “We must be the change we wish to see.” Beginning with around 100 children in 1984, The first batch appeared at the SSC examination in March 1989 with 88% results and since then we have excelled continuously year after year. From 1992, the school has achieved 100 % results every year, the credit for which goes to the staff, parents and students. Now it has a full fledge Junior college in the name of Prof.Ramnath Pandey Junior college of Science & Commerce. Gyan Kendra Educational Complex has grown significantly ‘though slowly’ as per modern trends, but the foundation of our system of education has been made very firm inspite of numerous obstacles and financial hurdles.
